Mission
The Coit Family Foundation makes grants to nonprofit organizations in the Western United States that have demonstrated their commitment to the care and stewardship of the natural world, scientific education, animal welfare, the education of children, the arts and the delivery of social services to disadvantaged people.
Areas of Interest
- Care & Stewardship of the Natural World
- Social Services for the Under-Served
- The Arts
- Health Care
- Education
We specifically look for programs that demonstrate a superior level of integrity and transparency and those that fall into more than one of the Foundation’s interest areas.
Types of Grants
We consider requests for program support and expansion, challenge/matching grants, capacity building and
general operating support. We do not support individuals, foreign organizations or lobbying efforts.
Application Guidelines
The Coit Family Foundation does not accept unsolicited proposals. Each year, the Board selects the grantees to be considered for funding and invites them to submit a brief proposal narrative for a suggested amount. The narrative should describe how the organization would use the grant funds. Because the Foundation utilizes a streamlined grant application process, in most cases, no additional documentation is requested. Organizations that have not received a grant in the past may be asked to provide financial information.
Timelines
- By March 15, invited letter of inquiry (“LOI”) submissions in Foundant are due (and additional documents if requested).
- By June 1, grantees will be notified if their request has been approved (many are in fact approved based only on LOI submissions), advancing in the process, or denied.
- By October 15, grantees who were asked to submit a full proposal will be notified of the Foundation’s funding decisions.
- By October 31, all grants will be paid.
